
BROWNS SUMMIT Thurman Lee Hedrick, 83, died January 31, 2013 at Wesley Long Hospital surrounding by his loving family. Thurman was born in Guilford County on March 26, 1929 to Roy Edward and Ada Arlene Elizabeth Branson Hedrick.
There will be a funeral service 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 3 at Friendship United Methodist Church in Brown Summit with the Reverend Suzanne Michael and Reverend Gary Owens officiating. The interment will follow in the church's cemetery.
Thurman was a member of the Northeast Civitan Club. He has held the office of President and received the Gold Key Award. He was a volunteer fireman for 38 years and the Assistant Chief of the Fire Department District 13. He was also a member of the Guilford County Fireman's Benevolent Brotherhood, where he was President and Treasure during his membership. Thurman was President of Guilford County Fire Protection Association. He received the Fireman of the Year for Guilford County Fire Departments. Thurman attended the Friendship United Methodist Church where he is a member. His career was with Glidden Paint Company as a warehouse manager.
Thurman is survived by, his wife, Christine Summers Hedrick; Daughter, Daniese H. Smith of Brown Summit; Granddaughters, Christina Nichole Smith of Greensboro, Sarah Allyson Smith of Brown Summit; Brothers, Grady Hedrick of Chesapeake, VA, Howard Hedrick of Greensboro; Sisters, Lillie Southern of Stokesdale, Polly Brewer of Monroeville, PA and Grace Finch of Greensboro. He was preceded by death by his parents; Son-in-Law, Dwight Smith; brothers, William, Fletcher, Olen and Thomas Hedrick; sisters, Margie Hamm, and Rosie Porter.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, on Saturday.
