GREENSBORO Dr. Susan Virginia Gibson, 61, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2012.
Susan grew up in Greensboro, NC and graduated from Grimsley High School in 1969. She was creative and talented in art, enjoyed books and literature; but her life-long love of animals led her to a career in veterinary medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in zoology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. She continued her education obtaining a Masters in small animal pathology from the University of Missouri.
Susan found roots in Mobile, Alabama where she lived and worked as a research veterinarian at the Primate Research Center at the University of South Alabama. Her legacy will continue through her work with animals as it ultimately helped in treating human medical conditions.
Susan was the daughter of Porter S. Gibson and the late Adam Lee Gibson, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Jack, and her sister in law Dena Gibson, her sister, Melanie, and brother in law, Jack (Stormy) Elkins, her brother, Charles and her brother, David.
Susan was the aunt to loving nieces and nephews, Jack Elkins, Leslie Elkins Wehmeyer, Jessica Elkins, Brian Gibson, Heather Gibson Winslow, and Jillian Gibson Crone.
A celebration of Susan's life will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Forbis and Dick, Guilford Chapel, 5926 W. Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC 27410.
The family is so grateful and would like to thank the compassionate Doctors, nurses, techs, counselors, chaplains and all those who helped Susan in her courageous battle with cancer.
