GREENSBORO Matthew Douglas Johnson, 20, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012.
A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at Monticello United Church of Christ officiated by Reverend Gary Owens. Interment will follow immediately afterwards at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Matthew was born in Greensboro on November 15, 1991 to Mark and Angela Johnson. He had many passions in life and greatly enjoyed being outdoors. As a very athletic young man, skiing, knee boarding, four wheeling and riding motor bikes were some of his favorite things to do but he also loved music, soccer, golf and especially the Duke Blue Devils. Matthew was the apple of his daddy's eye, the sunshine of his mama's life and the best brother a sister could ask for. Most importantly, Matthew loved God and was always there for family and friends in need with a smile. He loved his "mama" with all his heart.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Mark and Angela Johnson. Also surviving is a sister, Brooke Leigh Johnson. In addition, he is survived by nephews Tripp and Trevor Lee as well as uncles Mike Hopkins and David Johnson (Clyda). He is also survived by grandparents Douglas and Merita Hopkins, Marvin Johnson, and Gerri Kennedy Elliott (Bernard), and great- grandmother, Hazel Kennedy Murray.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 15, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel.
