JOHN ROBERT BOB IVEY Jr.

GREENSBORO — John Robert "Bob" Ivey, Jr., 71, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Bob was born April 1, 1941 in Southport. NC to the late John Robert and Margaret Peadrick Ivey. He was a member of Stokesdale Christian Church Disciples of Christ and a Veteran of the Navy. He retired from the Greensboro Fire Department after 32 years of Service. Bob also worked part-time for Distron, a division of Burger King, as a truck driver.

In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his infant son, Charles Irving Ivey and sister, Jacqueline Dean Ivey.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy Byrd Ivey; son, John Robert "Robbie" Ivey, III and wife Janie; daughter, Tonya Ivey Allen and husband Billy; grandchildren, Brandon Ivey, Rachel Ivey and Lacey Allen; sister, Patricia Johnston of Lakeland, FL; brothers, Thomas Allen Ivey and wife Elaine and Dennis Ray Ivey and wife Faye and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 5, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel.

The family would like to thank the Professional Fire Fighters of Greensboro Local 947, for the support during this time. They would also like to thank the staff of Moses Cone Hospital as well as his doctors that provided his care during the last eight years of his life.
