HARVEY ALEXANDER WALKER

GREENSBORO — Mr. Harvey Alexander Walker, 84, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Alamance House in Burlington, following several years of declining health.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Alamance Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Rev. Dr. Keith Uffman, Rev. Carl Parsons and Rev. David Neff will officiate.

Mr. Walker was born on February 5, 1929 in Alamance County to the late Joel Teed and Mattie Clapp Walker. He graduated from Burlington High School. Harvey served his country in the United States Army, 424th Field Artillery Battalion, during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served at Alamance Presbyterian Church as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and worked on many of their projects. He was a member of the Alamance Lions Club and Pioneers. He retired from AT&T with thirty seven years of service. Harvey was a man of many talents, using his skills to help others. He enjoyed trips to the mountains and beach, golfing with his wife and friends, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Huffman Walker; daughters, Patti and Donna Walker; and sister, Clara Phillips.

Survivors are his wife, M. Lou Sharpe Walker of the home; daughter, Michele Walker Hooper and husband Jason; granddaughter, Julia Fergus, all of Greensboro; brother, Dr. Joel Walker (Phyllis) of Graham; sisters, Linda Peele (Woody) of Greenville and Nancy Fogleman of Graham; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the service on Tuesday in the church Gathering Room.
