GREENSBORO Fred A. Williams, 82, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013. He was born on February 13, 1930, in Leland, Mississippi.
Fred graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with degrees in Personnel Management and Psychology, after which he served for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington DC. He began his professional career in personnel management in 1960 in Nashville, TN. In 1971, Fred joined Knit-Away, Inc. in Raeford, NC as Personnel Director and later served as Vice President of Personnel. He then started his own personnel consulting business, Williams Personnel Services, Inc. in Southern Pines, NC in 1979. He maintained several accounts but his primary client was Shamrock Corporation in Greensboro, NC, with whom he was associated for many years.
Survivors include his wife Minnie Lou Williams, daughter Cindy O'Malley, and husband Mike of Southport, CT, their children Evie, Kevin and Jamie, sons Bryan Williams of High Point, NC and Charles Williams of Vass, NC, daughter-in-law Hellen Williams of Bluffton, SC, and her daughters, Ellie and Emily. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Pitts, and husband Ben, of Punta Gorda, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Fred is predeceased by his his oldest son, Fred A. Williams, Jr. of Bluffton, SC.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 22, at Forbis & Dick, 5926 W. Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. Family visitation is at 3:30 p.m. followed by the service at 4:30 p.m. Dr. Bryant Wilbourne, Pastor of Morehead United Methodist Church, will officiate.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Hospice team and the staff at both Spring Arbor and Greensboro Manor for their care of Fred during the final days of his life.
