ELLA MARIENNE HOOPER WOODS

GREENSBORO — Ella Marienne Hooper Woods was born in 1924 and transitioned to glory on January 5, 2013. She was born in Caswell County, North Carolina to the late Edward Hooper and the late Vella Brown Hooper. After her mother passed when she was very young, kind and loving relatives reared her and instilled in her values of faith, fairness, and respect that guided her through life.

Marienne was educated in Caswell Schools, Bennett College, Winston Salem State University, and North Carolina A&T State University. From this experience, she became a dedicated school teacher and positively influenced the lives of hundreds of grateful students. She was a woman of great Christian belief and served the members of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church and St. James Presbyterian Church throughout her life.

Marienne was married to the late Naurice F. Woods, Sr. She is survived by her son Dr. Naurice F. Woods, Jr., daughter-in-law Sadie Bryant Woods, grandchildren Karmen Bell and her husband David, Tori Woods, great-grandson Cameron, brother Lewis Hooper, and many relatives and friends who treasure her memory.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church, 820 Ross Avenue, on Thursday January 10 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. and other times at the home. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of the service.
