AGNES MARTIN KALLAM

REIDSVILLE — Agnes Martin Kallam, 92, passed away on Friday morning, January 4, 2013, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County surrounded by her family. She resided in her home in Wentworth for over 50 years before being moved to the Carolina House to join her husband of 74 years. She had a brief stay at Avante before being hospitalized with pneumonia. She survived breast cancer in 1990.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Ray Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gregg Robertson, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ayersville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Kallam was born on May 2, 1920 in Rockingham County to the late Buck and Claudia Martin. She grew up in the Mayodan community where many of her relatives and friends lived. She retired from Washington Mills, Mayodan, after 30+ years. She will be remembered as a loving, selfless person; putting others before herself. Though her smile is gone, we still have so many memories of the one we loved so much. Her memory is now our keepsake which with we'll never part. God has her in his keeping. We have her in our hearts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce Martin, James "Slick" Martin, Carl "Bill" Martin, John "Dink" Martin; sisters, Pauline Martin and Thelma Martin Jones.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Willard Kallam of the Carolina House; daughters, Linda Murphy and husband, J.D. of Eden and Betty Watkins and husband, Dewey of Reidsville; grandson, Mike Watkins of Reidsville and great-grandson, Caleb; brother, Bobby Martin of Greensboro; sister, Mary Jereline Calder and husband, Ed of Fayetteville; sisters-in-law, Edna Martin of Madison and Hazel Martin of Burlington; brothers-in-law, Paul Kallam and Joe Kallam, both of Mayodan; godchildren, Tammy Dorsett and Tommy Martin, both of Madison and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Betty and Dewey Watkins, 1433 NC Hwy. 65, Reidsville.

Special thanks is extended to the caring physicians and nursing staff at Annie Penn Hospital who made her stay comfortable; the doctor and staff at Avante who assisted her; the care received at the Carolina House and the dedicated and wonderful staff at Hospice.
