EDEN — Carlisle
Caston Campbell, Jr., loving husband, father and grandfather, lost his courageous battle with cancer April 30, 2012.
He was surrounded by family and friends. Carlisle was born in Eden, North Carolina, on June 11, 1930 to Carlisle and Amy Campbell. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. After serving in the U.S. Air Force he returned to school and received another degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Western Electric on the anti-missile program before coming to NASA in 1962. During his 50 years at NASA, Carlisle received numerous awards including the Engineering Legacy Award, Manned Flight Achievement and the 50 Year Service Award. Carlisle had many talents: painting, woodworking and writing poetry, but sculpting was his special gift. He loved hiking and canoeing and enjoyed outdoor activities with many friends in The Outdoor Club sponsored by College of the Mainland.
Carlisle was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 50 years, Grace of El Lago, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Carmen and Phil Crabtree of Seabrook, TX; son Carlisle "Rusty" Campbell of Germany; six grandchildren, Hunter and Danielle Sedgwick, Brady, Amanda, Caleigh Crabtree and Cody Campbell; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond Endicott, Asheville, N.C. and Mrs. Edward S. Cook, Fayetteville, N.C.; brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Johnson, Greensboro, N.C.; sister-in-law, Sylvia Payne, King, N.C.; five nieces, four nephews and countless friends.
A memorial service was held at Seabrook Methodist Church. Entombment will be in the Lawson Cemetery in Eden, N.C. on Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Building Committee, Seabrook Methodist Church, 3300 Lakeside Dr. Seabrook, TX 77586.
